Logical Itinerary ?

I'm asking for a general itinerary for the 3 nights I'll have to see some of the Provence/Luberon area. I know it's not a lot of time but... I'll be coming up by train from Marseille, staying in Avignon for 3 nights, then onto Paris by rail. Should I stop in Aix on the way up from Marseille since it seems so close, rather than back tracking from Avignon? I can rent a car for either or both of the 2 full days (non-travel) to facilitate time, etc. Sites to possibly see: Arles, Orange, Nimes, Aix, Pont du Gard, Gordes, Bonnieux, Les Beux-de Provence, Roussilon,, St. Remy,--just off the top. I know there's not enough time to see these all in 2 days plus 2 travel days.

So looking for help with which to see and in what order and on which days: Car ? Train? Ugh. ty

If you are staying in Marseille, visit Aix from Marseille - or stay in Aix even! Otherwise, skip Aix.

And certainly do rent a car.

Arles and Les Baux fill up 1 day.
Nimes and Pont du Gard fill up another day.
Gordes + ONE other Lubéron village such as Roussillon, Lacoste, Menerbes or Goult (all more enjoyable to visit than Bonnieux, because Bonnieux has car traffic) could be done in half a day if you move fast.

Skip Orange, the theater is still covered in a lot of scaffolding for renovations, as far as I know.

If you stay in Marseille for 3 nights, you could definitely go to Aix from there if interested. It is very easy by bus.
And Avignon is a good, central base, but if you have a car, you could pick Saint-Remy-de-Provence instead, for example. It will be easier to drive around, and to park. Avignon itself is skippable in my opinion!

Regarding the car: it is very easy to pick up a car at Marseille Saint Charles and drive to Avignon and that's what I would recommend. You exit the car park, take a right, enter a tunnel, take a right at the end of the tunnel...and you're on the motorway. I've done it many times.
