Lodging recommendation in Chartres France

We will be in Chartres for one night in May 2015. Prefer center city location with parking-bed and breakfast is our first choice. Any recommendations?

We used the Mercure hotel in the city center of Chartes. It did have a small parking area but I do not remember if there was a charge for parking.

Since Mercures have given special rates to people who are over 60 years old, that also includes breakfast. The room was very modern and a reasonable size. The hotel is very close to restaurants, shopping and the cathedral.

Enjoy!

I have stayed at the following:

  1. Le Boeuf Couronné
This one is by far my favorite and has the best placement (some rooms offer a view of the cathedral). It's an older hotel and it's on the Logis chain. It's attached to the famous restaurant in Chartres that is fantastic. They've recently redone their bathrooms *(very small showers added, but when I first stayed there I got a cheap single with a bathroom down the hall). It's very quaint and very French. The service was very welcoming. Parking is in the Centre Ville, and you must pay.

  2. Hotel Johan de Beauce
This hotel has recently been renovated and is no longer the 2 star hotel it was. I really enjoyed it then, but as I understand it's more chic now and the prices match that chicness. This one is extremely convenient, as it's located RIGHT next to the train station. Parking is in the Centre Ville, and you must pay.

  3. Ibis Centre Cathédrale
This hotel is your typical Ibis: a cookie-cutter value hotel, but... but... it offers air conditioning whereas the other do not. The location is more close to the older part of town and it requires a walk up steep stairs to get to the cathedral, or you can take a longer way that's a nicer stroll. It's also located right along the River Eure. The restaurant attached is a nice addition and is quite delicious. I understand that this one has paid parking and if I remember correctly, cheaper street parking.

Parking at hotels 1-3 are 19,80EUR a day in the public underground parking structure. http://www.q-park.fr/fr/se-garer-chez-q-park/parkings-par-ville/chartres/parking-cœur-de-ville

I've heard good things about Hotel Chatelet and also the new Mercure, but I cannot vouch for those. Also Le Best Western: Grand Monarque used to be the "Grande dame" hotel of the city.

Chartres used to be an easier place to get a budget room, but now it's becoming even more of a hotspot for overnighters. It's my favorite city in France. Heck, I lived here for a year after I graduated college. If you need any recommendations, don't hesitate to ask.

We are considering a reasonably priced package that gives lodging in Chartres at the Chateau D'Esclimont. Does anyone know anything about it? It looks beautiful from
the pictures.
