Starting my search for accommodations , any suggestions for near the Part Dieu train station?
Or do you highly recommend something else?

Why do you want to be close to the station? Do you have an early train? Otherwise, I would not recommend it: it is quite unattractive.
If you still want to be close to the station, the area between Brotteaux / Masséna metro stops is much better.
And for general tourism purposes, somewhere on the Presqu'île (north of Perrache) is usually best!

I'm coming from Paris on a TVG and leaving on like to Aix en Provence. The TVGs arrive and leave from both stations so I picked Part Dieu, so thank you for that insight. Any recommendations near Perrache? I do walk everywhere.

Can't recommend a specific hotel (it's been too long), but there are many choices around Place Bellecour: the are is both pretty and very central.

I spent a week in Lyon last Autumn , Really nice hotel in a quiet residential area ..
