Hello,
Can anyone recommend a hotel/bnb (ie: not a cottage or house) for three rooms (a group of 5 adults: 2 couples and a single)? Charming would be ideal, but quiet, clean, and within walking distance of Monet's gardens are even higher priority. For two nights in April.
Merci beaucoup!
Travellors are usually advised to seek accomodation in Vernon, as Giverny is a tiny village. The train stops in Vernon. I walked it in about an hour when my legs were much younger than now. A regular shuttle runs from the train to the garden itself. I went at the end of summer; the colours were magnificant and tourist traffic was somewhat reduced, especially in the afteroon after tour coaches departed. I imagine April will attract may visitors tired of winter.
Will you have a car? If not, you might find Giverny or Vernon a bit limiting for 2 nights. 1 night would be enough!

Many thanks for replies. Arriving jet lagged in afternoon so will have dinner and rest then next day gardens and town and next morning heading out, so 2 nights will be good. No car, but glas to know someone suggested a shuttle from Vernon. Anyone have a good current experience at a hotel/bnb in Vernon -trying to keep it simple and sometimes hard to do if renting out a whole house or cottage. Thank you! 😊
It is your trip, but as much as I generally dislike one-night stays, I am really not sure that you need a second night in Vernon or Giverny (Giverny has a few B&Bs, so you could stay there). The village of Giverny is basically one street, with a small museum besides the Monet house & gardens. Vernon, if you stay there, is reasonably cute around the main church (Collégiale), but otherwise you do not miss much if you skip it altogether.
If you do end up staying two nights, then I would do so in Vernon and not in Giverny, so that you can at least explore Vernon once you come back from Giverny.
This was a million years ago, but we rented bicycles at the Vernon station. I do remember that the bar bathroom near the station was post-war frightening, even though it was the 1980s. I imagine such a large group has people who don't want to ride a bike. I agree that two nights are excessive, except possibly for Art History majors. It's too much work to handle luggage and the paperwork overhead for what should be a long daytrip from a hotel room in Paris.
Acknowledged, it's a problem for this number of people not fitting in a single sedan. But formal transport would probably cost less than three rooms for two nights. I mean, this is not an undiscovered location that Band of Brothers just moved out from.
It seems like the OP was thinking of going to Giverny/Vernon directly upon arrival in France, instead of going to Paris, and then heading on from there. . . perhaps to Rouen or elsewhere. I don’t know that they’re talking about an alternative to a day trip from Paris.
