Lodging in Provence

We are spending 4 days in Provence and wondering where to stay. I have heard that Arles and Avignon are difficult to get in and out of due to traffic. I am looking at Fontvielle but not finding many options. Any suggestions? We are a family of 4 (mom, dad, and 2 teenagers).

We stayed in Arles for several nights and had a car. We were very happy with the Hotel de L'Amphiteatre. I believe they may have offered parking near the hotel but that would have required some fancy driving on tiny streets; we parked in the municipal garage maybe 10 minute walk away (part of which is through a pretty garden). The garage exited onto a large boulevard and we had no difficulty at all driving in and out of town....and we are, frankly, not adventurous drivers. The hotel offered a reduced rate for guests in that garage back then. Market day in Arles may complicate easy access ? To visit Avignon and Isle sur la Sorgue we took the train, other days we drove. Really, we had no problem at all. Safe travels.

Rick's Provence & Riviera book describes a few properties between Les Baux and Mausanne that tend to have family rooms and swimming pools. (None of his St. Remy listings mention quad rooms.)

Check out Maison sur la Sorgue in L'isle sur la Sorgue. Definitely a splurge, but totally worth it.
