Quick question - having some trouble finding a nice place to stay in the Nice area. We would be open to one of the smaller cities outside of Nice, but don't really know where to look. I will be traveling there with my family during the first week of July. Any other suggestions for activities/excursions would be appreciated!

I think I would just stay in Nice and visit other places, a public nis to Monaco is one euro and the drive is so scenic! You can get off at Eze sur Med on way back for lunch on the beach.. Or take train (4 euros I think) and stop at Eze Ville for great lunch and views from hill tops. Of course there are many other stops. One note ,beaches in Nice are rocky not sandy so if you have going kids go west(Cannes) for sand.

You might have a look at Hotel Suisse (although it may already be fully booked for July). It's a wonderful hotel with fantastic views of the Promenade des Anglais, and easy walking distance to the old town markets and restaurants.

You may have to expand your search for popular summer dates. If you don't find something in Nice, then try also Antibes and Menton.
