From Baune I will travel by car to Bellagio with a stop in EITHER Chamonix or Grenoble. Pick one for me. Two nights?

Do you mean Beaune, France? Chamonix involves virtually no detour, whereas Grenoble will add close to an hour to the driving time--perhaps not significant enough to worry about. I haven't been to either city so cannot compare their virtues.
If this isn't part of a loop trip that has you returning to France, you should be prepared for a very high international drop fee, assuming you will be driving a rental car.
