I remember reading here about local volunteers who are tour guides. I want to say they work on tips. Does anyone have info on how to contact them?
Are you thinking of Paris Greeters?

Ana,
I used the parisgreeters for an afternoon one day. They take donations. If i remember "tour guides" are licensed and they are not, hence the "donations".
make sure you have some idea of date/time and what you like. Its sort of like a dating service w/o the date, but they match you up with people of similar/same interests and age group. I enjoyed my time and had an opportunity to see somethings in out of the way places.
happy trails.
Paris Greeters is a great program. When you apply online you are given the opportunity to make a donation to the program. It isn't mandatory. You indicate what your interests are and they match you up with someone. You are not required to accept their proposal. If you don't, they will try to find something else for you. We had a great guide who took us through the Marais, where he grew up. He customized the tour based on the questions I asked and my interests. We took him out for a drink as a Thank You, as the guides are not allowed to accept tips.
