My husband and I are joining the Loire to the South of France tour in late September, and during our free day in Sarlat, we’d love to do something a bit special. We’re hoping to find a local guide/driver who could take us to Rodez for the day.
We’ve recently discovered that we have ancestral roots in the area, but our research is still in the early stages. Even so, it feels like a meaningful opportunity to visit and get a sense of the place.
If anyone has suggestions for a reliable guide or driver, we’d be so grateful!
There is a car rental place in Sarlat. I think Turo operates in that area, as well.
Unfortunately, you won't find a local driver or guide to take you from Sarlat to Rodez, they are completely different regions.
If you rent a car, be aware that the round trip itself takes about 5 to 6 hours on small, sometimes difficult departmental roads (I know this route).
A pre-booked taxi could take you there for, I think, around €350 round trip on weekdays, plus €22 per hour of waiting time while you're in Rodez.
I could potentially help you with local genealogical research and tell you how to access the civil records of Rodez and other online resources for the region, but I don't want to intrude on your privacy.
Ok. Thank you. Perhaps a reason for an extended return visit. :-)
