Hotel in St Remy in Provence

Hi
We Have booked Mas des Tourterelles Chambers in St Remy in Provence . My concern is that in Rick Steves book he mentions and English couple as hosts. But some new reviews list another name Virginia. Would the place still be recommended by Rick Steves ? Should I try to book something else?

Good question!
I have 2 suggestions:

1) You ask if Rick Steves would still recommend the lodging? 99% of us answering questions here are travelers just like you, we have no affiliation with the Rick Steves Europe organization and can't speak for them. But there are one or two Rick Steves Europe employees who monitor this sight and they can speak (I think) speak for the organization. You'll know it's them by looking at the logo to the left of their post, it will have "RS" in a blue circle.

2) You'll probably get more answers to your question if you Edit your subject line, to make it a more descriptive subject line than just having your name.
Just takes a few seconds to edit the subject line, just click on the blue Edit hypertext. I think people here tend to skim the subject lines in deciding what posts to read, and just seeing "Liz" may cause some of them to not read your post.

Definitely edit your subject line... to something like Hotel St. Remy.. Tons of people here have stayed in St. Remy and can give you loads of advice. It is my favorite town to stay in while in Provence. Don't know the price range of the hotel you have booked by if you give us that we may be able to offer some alternatives. You will love the town!

Liz, I can tell you what has happened. The place was owned by Richard and Carrie Aherne but they had been considering selling and leaving and did so. It is now run by Herve and Virginia who run it the same way it has always been run and give love and care to the place and to those who stay there. It is the same place with the same excellent service. No need to book anything else.

The question is, what do the new reviews say beyond a different name for the host? The quick thing to do would be to look the place up on a site like Booking.com and see what the recent reviews are, if any. This is a reliable source since only people who have booked accommodations can post reviews. You can also check TripAdvisor but there is some minor risk of self-serving fake reviews there. All reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt since some folks are known to forget little things like they came in for the night drunk as skunks and the host had to call the cops to throw them out.

Rick's recommendations are a very good source of information but the cannot always be up to date for every place.

Thanks for your input . Guess I wasn't paying close attention when I filled in topic line.

If you are having second thoughts regarding that hotel I can recommend the one where we stayed in St Remy. Hotel Sous Les Figueres is a great little hotel--more like a small inn. All rooms open to outside space with seating area for each room. There is a very attractive common area with chandeliers and large French doors at each end. Breakfast is very nice but is not included--very reasonable charge. There is parking for each room and the parking area is gated and secure. The higher priced rooms have outside seating shaded by large fig trees. It is an easy walk to restaurants in St Remy and there are some very good ones--market day is fabulous and not to be missed.

Highly recommend this hotel. I stayed there a couple of years ago for a few nights and used it as a base for exploring the area. I stayed in a 2 room (one bedroom and on living room) with a kitchen and dinning area. There was also an outside area to sit. The pool is nice too - depending on the time of year. There is parking space and the owner is amazing. I think she used to manage a large chain hotel in Belgium and her care is impeccable.
It is within walking distance to the city center and there is a small supermarket very close by in case you want to make a meal at home.
I would love to return for a few weeks (at some point in the future) and enjoy the bounties of Provence.

(I have no financial interest in this hotel; I know I sound enthusiastic but it is because I am a very happy customer. I had a flat tire on a Sunday and the owner made tons of phone calls to help me get it fixed. Long story.)
