Limited Access to Dijon Musee des Beaux-Arts

I met a couple of tourists in Lyon today who had just arrived from Dijon. They reported that they could see only a small part (they estimated 15%) of the Musee des Beaux-Arts de Dijon. Everything except the medieval collection was closed off. That degree of disruption sounds as if they might be doing long-term bulding repairs or restoration, in which case this situation could continue for a long time. I do not know for sure, though.

And so my bad museum luck continues. Those headed for Paris might like to know that I will not have time for that city on this trip. You can thank me now.

I'm a bit surprised to hear that only 15% of the museum is open as my guests enjoyed it without saying that. They seem to renovate the outside walls.
Check their website maybe to know more https://beaux-arts.dijon.fr/ . I'll check that when I'm back home next week.
Fortunately this is not the only museum in Dijon... https://musees.dijon.fr/
Bon voyage.

It's possible that, in their disappointment, the other travelers underestimated the percentage of the museum they saw. I did check the museum website, but I don't read French, and all I got was "We're still open while something-something-something".

I'm supposed to be in Dijon myself beginning on Friday. If nothing happens to alter that schedule I'll be able to provide a first-hand report within a week.

I was there in May. Since it was my first time, I can't say anything about percentage. There was a lot of renovation on the building but the part that I wanted to see, the medieval stuff, was available. With the renovation, it was a little awkward to find the entrance.

Alrighty. I hit the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Dijon today. From looking at the floor plan I'd say that about 25% of the museum (the medieval period) is open. Large placards in the courtyard indicate that work will continue until sometime in 2019.

There's no obvious blocking off of rooms, and there's still a lot to see, so it wouldn't necessarily be obvious that you were missing a lot unless you were specifically looking for something more modern that you had read about (impressionists...).

I definitely still recommend the museum. Although what's accessible now is overwhelmingly religious stuff, mainly 14C-16C (not my favorite subject matter or my favorite period), the quality appeared to be outstanding. In addition to paintings and sculptures, including impressive tombs, there are some small items like enameled buckles, carved ivories, etc. And the museum is air-conditioned! As mentioned above, it is also free.

Thanks for the feedback acraven. Hope you had a little time to visit Dijon (following the Owl's Trail maybe)

Yes, I have had two full days in Dijon itself, plus time for dinner after returning from a day-trip to Beaune. I think I walked about 90% of the streets in the historic center. It is a very nice city, and one of those where you get the sense that most of the other folks on the street in the historic district are locals, or at least French. And the temperature has been comparatively tolerable for the last two days.

I'm always happy to hear that! Merci acraven (and the temperatures are going down soon...)
