Hello everyone
We are hoping to spend 10 days in France early May arriving in Paris and then heading to Lille to spend 2 nights. We would then head South to Avignon, Aix, Nice and Monte Carlo area. We were looking for 2 home bases for the time spent in the South. Is train the way to go from Lille to Avignon? We were going to pick up a car in Avignon. We will be leaving for home from the South.
Any suggestions and most welcomed and appreciated.

There are several direct trains from Lille to Avignon in 4 to 4 1/2 hours. Some are Ouigo trains (SNCF's answer to Ryanair with limited luggage and no services) so be aware of that.

I've driven it and I'll just mention that it is a LONG drive, and around 100€ in tolls one way. Train is so easy.
Watch out for all the French holidays in May.
