I'm thinking about finding a quaint apartment (within a home?) to rent in Lille for one month....hopefully, an affordable place with easy access to the eurail trains.
My french ancestors are from near there (Wicres) and it looks like a central location for side trips to London, Paris and Amsterdam. I want get a feel for the lay of the land and hope to immerse myself in the local culture....even though my DuBois ancestors arrived in the states in about 1660.
I also have ancestors from Meteren, Netherlands, and Lorch, Germany. (I'm hesitant to rent a car for fear of getting lost and my french is limited.) Do you have any advice/suggestions?
