Les Marais to CDG New Year's Day

I would love some current thoughts on time, cost, and hassle of getting to the airport from Paris. We are staying in an apartment in Les Marais the week of 27-Dec, leaving 1-Jan, and need to get to CDG airport by 7:30AM. Family of 5, with bags. The apartment manager says he can arrange for transport to the airport for 75Euros. It looks like from the RATP trip planner that it would take us more than an hour via metro and RER train, but that would effectively be free if we have Navigo Decouverte cards for the week. I am okay paying some for the convenience of less time and being dropped off where we need to be at the airport, but do not want to overpay. I have seen threads from a year+ ago saying that more than 70 Euros is excessive. Perhaps is it because there are 5 of us, and an early hour on a holiday? I cannot imagine traffic will be heavy at that hour and date. Thank you in advance for information from any recent experiences.

When you consider that most taxis can' t accommodate five people and their bags, requiring a special van, and that there are surcharges for bags after the first one placed in the trunk (1€ each) as well as for each person in addition to the first two, 75€ doesn't sound all that bad. Traffic would probably be light, so the ride would likely take less than an hour. Metro traffic would also be pretty light at that time of day on New Years, but I don't think I would like to end a nice vacation in Paris herding five people and their luggage to the airport. At that time in the morning, I would take the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely ride to the airport with some last glimpses of a beautiful and memorable city.

agree that 75 euros on a holiday for 5 people and bags is absolutely reasonable and well worth your money. I'm surprised it's not more.

also - getting 5 people with bags through the metro and RER - I'm not sure you could even leave early enough to get there at the recommended time before departure - again, holiday schedule on the metro and RER, trains running less frequently.

If it were me, i'd thank the manager, pay the 75 euros, and be happy I had it taken care of at a good price.

Your flight is too early for the train which doesn't start running that early. (although you could check to see if it runs all night on New Year's Eve which is possible) It would cost 50 by train for your group. You need to be at the airport 3 hours ahead for a North American flight or two for a European flight, so the trains are probably not a choice.

You can easily call G7 cabs which has an English line, and arrange for a cab the night before. It will cost about 50 on the meter plus 6 for the 4th and 5th passenger (each passenger above 3 is 3 Euros) and 4 for the bags in the trunk after the first one (assuming one suitcase each) Keep purses and computer bags in your lab so as not to be charged for those. So that makes the cost for 5 between 60 and 65 or so. Taxi companies have van cabs which cost the same as ordinary cabs; you do need to make very clear that you need a cab for 5 people and luggage. The 75 is high but not crazy high.

Well, I don't know ..... I remember paying 80 euro from the 17th to CDG, mid-morning on a nice June day about 6 years ago, so 75 euro on New Years Day for 5 people with luggage sounds pretty good to me.

I have taken cabs to CDG a dozen times including twice from the 17th -- it cost us 45 Euro from the 17th and we have never paid more than 60 anywhere in Paris for two with luggage. We did this last October to and from; it was 45 each way including tip (not necessary but we round up) to the 18th. 75 is not crazy out of line and if it makes your travel easier and you have confidence in the apartment manager, no harm in doing this.

I have done that exact trip via trains early morning on New Year's Day. You'll want to double-check me on this in case it has changed - but in the past the RATP and RER trains have been FREE for everyone on NYE (evening) and New Year's Day. There will be some people still winding up their NYE night out at that time of day, but there won't be a charge! (I know someone suggested the RER trains don't run that early in the morning, but I have definitely taken the RER to CDG very very early in the morning numerous times with no problems. Of course you should double-check all of this on the RATP site in case something has changed.

In this case, though, I would probably suggest you take the vans. 75 is not a bad price for the number of people you have, and if you know the service will be reliable, do it. Give yourself an hour to get there (but it probably won't take that long on the morning of a holiday...), and as someone else suggested, make sure to give yourself 3 hours to get through the various lines that exist. If something goes horribly awry, you can always find a cab stand, call an Uber or even scramble to hop on the train.

Have a terrific trip!

For 75 Euros, take it. Super Shuttle is 85 Euros & Paris-Shuttle is 90 Euros.
