Les Eyzies to Mont St Michel Drive

We'll be driving from Les Eyzies to Mont St Michel w/ 2 young children. We want to split up the long drive by stopping somewhere halfway for the night. Any suggestions on beautiful villages halfway between the 2 that may be a feasible overnight stay?

It's not quite a village, but La Rochelle is a beautiful harbor town, well-preserved (walls and all). Good aquarium too, if the weather's off. Quite good for the night I would say.
