Les Cocottes Paris Restaurant

I read a review on the Paris restaurant Les Cocottes and it is also in the RS Paris book. Has anyone gone to this restaurant and if so did you enjoy the food and the dining experience. Was it crowded and did you go during the week? Did you also go to Cafe Constant. Love to hear about your experiences about these two places. Thanks.

Ann, I went to Cafe Constant last fall. They opened at 7, I think, and there are no reservations, you just stood in line to get in. We got there about 6:40 on a Tuesday night in September, needed a table for 6 and were the last big party to be seated. I think there were 1 or 2 parties of 2 that got in after us for the main seating. The line went around the corner toward the Hotel Londres Eiffel. The tables are tightly packed into the ground floor and the room upstairs. People were casually dressed. The only shoes I had taken with me were athletic shoes and I did not feel too conspicuous in them. Some men had on jackets, I don't remember noting any guys with ties. None of the women were particularly dressed up altho most had on actual shoes, lol. I was in the minority there. I do recall seeing one gentleman in the European crop pants and converse sneakers.

Food-wise, I'm a vegan so don't take my opinion on that, lol! My only options were a salad and a soup, each in the neighborhood of 15€ each, I had both and they were fine. The others at the table really enjoyed their food and though it was delicious. I am not sure what the final bill was with wine as our friends treated us which was very sweet. Servers were attentive and a bit more casual and relaxed than some of the other restaurants I ate in. They were very knowledgeable about the menu.

I did just take a quick peek at their website and it says they are open from 12-2300 with "non-stop" service, so perhaps they have changed how they do things since last fall?

I walked by Les Cocottes which is a door or two down from Cafe Constant. I looked at the menu and altho I am not entirely sure it may have been a bit more expensive than Cafe Constant. I can't be sure about that, though.

Ann, we loved Les Cocottes! We were there on a Sunday evening, got there about 45 mins after opening and got two seats right away at the bar, which is used for food service as well as tables. Note that Les Cocottes does not take reservations. We had planned to be there at opening but were delayed ;-) and it worked out. We did not go to Cafe Constant, or the other, more upscale Christian Constant restaurant in the area-but have long heard that they are all good.

Les Cocottes "design" is traditional French dishes, served in spectacular Staub iron cocottes and platters, in a clean semi modern interior. The service was outstanding, casual efficiency defined. Great wines too. I would highly recommend it!

Here's the seafood bisque.

Here is the front window.

And of course, le pigeon.

I'm getting hungry now...

I have been to Cafe Constant a lot recently -- always for lunch on a weekday, and I never encountered a line. I usually went around 2pm. Others have told me there is a line to get in at dinner and at peak lunchtime. The same may be true for Les Cocottes, owned by the same chef, which is a few doors down. Again I went there during off-peak hours. Both restaurants are small, and casual, and I always found them to be friendly. I would not recommend them for large parties (more than 5) since they don't take reservations and it may be hard to get a large table. I love the food at both of them.

Hi Ann. Last fall I went to Cafe Constant three times; once a late lunch and 2 dinners. We were first in line for dinner; I cannot remember the time we got in line but the restaurant filled up very quickly. It was a wonderful experience. I have eaten there many times during past visits. One of my favorites.

I have been to Les Cocettes twice over the last few years. I enjoyed it and will visit again. It gets busy very quickly. The last visit, maybe 3 or 4 years ago, I was the first in line, probably lining up at least 20 minutes before 7. The tall stools are not comfy!

One of my favorite cafes is Les Terrasse on a corner right by the Ecole Militaire metro stop, very near the 2 restaurants you mention. I have had many simple meals there, if moules frites is simple. Great place for a drink. A people watching corner; Locals are departing the metro on their way home? Yes, there are lots of tourists but locals too. It is open late.

Have a great trip.

I want to thank all of you who posted responses regarding the two restaurants. They are both high on my list for when I go to Paris later this year! I will make sure I get to both if at least not one of the two. Great recommendations, thank you. I looked at both menus and am sure to have a hard time deciding what to order.

Fantastique! I've enjoyed protiferoles all over Paris -- no problem finding them.

We ate at Le P'tit Troquet, which is in the same neighborhood and loved it! Intimate bistro, wonderful food with warm and inviting service.
