Thank you Steven. Will read it. For another look at the bouquinistes and the special world they live in read Paris, Paris. The wonderful, articulate writer, David Downie, takes us into their culture in one of the chapters.
My beloved Paris. I pray they survive. They are so iconic.
As Nancy notes , you can usually access the Times even without a subscription , and in this case , the article is complemented by some beautiful photos , much as Michael Kimmelman's Architecture pieces are so adorned .
I hate to be the voice of doom and gloom, but you do realize that copying and pasting an entire article like this is a copyright violation and can get the website owner in trouble?

I suggest we not make a habit of asking people to copy and paste articles or responding to such a request

I believe that you get a limited number of free articles. I'm not sure if it's monthly or forever. I have a subscription.
Just clear the New York Times cookies in your browser first and you'll be able to see it.
It used to be 10 articles per month; that may have changed. In recent years I've found clearing cookies insufficient for reading more than that, though I believe that technique may have worked some years ago. More recently, using a different browser was effective, but I haven't tried that in the last year; I'm currently paying for a subscription because I need to hit a lot of NYT travel articles.
Elaine Sciolino has a chapter on the bouquinistes in her book "The Seine."
And I was able to get a 1 year subscription to the New York Times a few months ago for $4 a month. In my opinion it's more than worth it.
