Leave car rental in St Tropez or Nice (coming from Aix-En-Provence)

Hello!

We will be driving from Provence to Nice in early June with our 2-year old. I'd really love to see St Tropez and have heard that driving in the Cote D'Azur can be crazy. Would any of these options work- and which would be best?

Option 1: Drive Aix to St. Tropez, leave car rental there and take ferry or train to Nice (not sure if this would work or would be way too long with a toddler)
Option 2: Drive Aix to St Tropez, then drive St Tropez to Nice (at what part in the Cote D'azur does it become crazy?)
Option 3: Skip St Tropez and take train from Aix to Nice (is the whole region not worth driving in, especially with a toddler?)

Thank you so much for your help!

Public transport is bad around st Tropez, so leaving the car there is not an option.
Traffic shouldn't be terrible in early June, so I would just keep the car until Nice. The coastal drive until Mandelieu is very scenic.

If you are going to stay in St. Tropez, I too recommend a car. You can take the coastal route, but you can also take the quicker way via the Autoroute. Just time your departure carefully to avoid peak traffic. You can return your car at the Nice airport as it is relatively easy to get to from the main Autoroute, although the signs to the rental return area in the middle of the parking garages will require one person to maintain a lookout. Then, take the tram or taxi/Uber into the city from the car rental return.
