Le Marais vs Haut Le Marais

Hi!I am trying to get information on these between these two areas. Is there one area that is more prefer young travelers? Google does have too much information :)....

I see that google maps shows most of the Jewish quarter near Le Marais / closer to the Seine. However there is few information on this new Haut Marais on the internet near Sentier and Rue St Martin (I do know that the metros are very convenient on this part of town as the connections are more direct!).

Thanks!!

"Haut Marais" is more of a tourist marketing board phrase to me than anything else . . a neighborhood nearby trying to capitalize on the enormous popularity of the Marais, a part of Paris since medieval times (well, before!) and that escaped for the most part Baron Haussmann's and Napoleon III's re-orienting of the city.

Either one would be fine to stay in now. The original Marais is probably more expensive than the Haut Marais -- except perhaps among hipsters. As for the metro, you can't get much more convenient than the line 1 at St Paul or Hotel de Ville or Bastille.

Panda, you've posted this question in several different ways in several different posts. Anyplace you stay in the lower numbered arrondissements is likely to be convenient and safe, even though it may look a little rough and sketchy on google streetview. Just pick an apartment that meets your needs and fits your budget. If it's not right in the middle of things and/or walking distance to lots of sights just make sure it's close to at least one (and preferably two) metro stops and you'll be just fine.

The Haut Marais - or Upper Marais is in the 3rd arrondissement towards Republique. Sentier is well into the 2nd arrondissement and is not what I would call either the Marais or the Haut Marais. Rue St. Martin is a fair distance from Sentier - but is in part of what I would call the Haut Marais.

I would much prefer the area near the Sentier, or rue St. Martin, over the more touristy parts of the Marais in the 4th arrondissement.
