For our trip to France in late May, we’re on Play airlines from Boston to CDG with a 1.5 hour layover at Keflavik airport in Iceland. Looking for any advice on our layover. I know this is kinda a silly question, but anything to see at this airport or food we need to try? Thanks!
When you arrive in Reykjavik, you will be going through Schengen immigration. Nothing spectacular at the airport.
You could buy some Icelandic chocolate in the shops.
It’s a rather compact airport. You’ll easily see everything that is offered very quickly during your layover. The food is typical airport fare. I did not spend time in the duty free or souvenir shops. The airport staff in all areas were very friendly and helpful.
Find the chocolate covered liquorice. And stock up.
Thanks for these answers. On Schengen immigration, is the process completed during this stop in Iceland? Then nothing when we land at CDG? Or is there another step at CDG? Thanks!
Passport control is completely done in Iceland. At CDG, all you will have to do is pick up any checked luggage and walk out.
Thanks again. Now for a really newbie question. What does passport control look like? Just a quick scan of our passports? Or will this also include customs questions (which really don't apply to us as this is our flight into the EU and we'll have nothing to declare)?
Immigration is handled in Keflavik, customs in Paris. Immigration involves someone looking at your passport and stamping it, starting the 90-day period.
Customs very much apply to you (you're crossing international borders, why would customs not apply to you?), and involves walking through a green lane if you don't have anything to declare, or a red lane if you have something to declare.
