Last night in Paris (Saturday) - stay in Paris or hotel at CDG Airport?

We are flying out of CDG on a flight to Philadelphia that leaves on a Sunday morning at 1030. On Saturday, we will be arriving in Paris on a train from Bayeux. We do have some time in Paris at the start of our trip, but should we spend another night in town, or at an airport hotel?

Since this is a Sunday morning, I am guessing that the traffic will not be too bad, but having never been there, I have no idea. I know we could also take the RER-B train to the airport. Looking for advice from those that have done this before. Thanks

We are returning home from Italy through Paris on 5/7/19. Given that our flight from Paris to Boston leaves at 10:20 AM, we reluctantly decided to stay at an airport hotel at CDG. Our preference is to try to squeeze in one more day in a city like Paris. However, given that we spent a good deal of time in Paris in 2018, and that we will be at the end of a three week trip, it seemed like the best strategy to stay at an airport hotel. It will probably be less stressful to stay at the airport.

On our last trip to Paris, we took the RER-B train from the Luxembourg stop to CDG, and it worked well. Our hotel was a short walk from the RER stop, and I should note that we had to carry our luggage down steps to the station.

My personal preference is to stay at a CDG hotel the night before a morning flight. I stay at the Novotel at Terminal 3. If I can leave my luggage at my hotel/apartment, I spend the day in Paris and take a taxi to CDG whenever I`m ready. If I don't have a place to leave my luggage, I take a taxi to the hotel early in the day, leave my luggage, the take the RER back to Paris to spend the remainder of the day.

I have done the airport hotels a few times but it was for something like 7 AM departures.

For a 10:30?? No way would I stay there. I would spend the last night in Paris and hop on the RER early Sunday. Or take a 50 Euro cab.

Even the good hotels are depressing airport hotels! Stay in Paris and enjoy the city!

I would definitely stay in the city for a 10:30 flight! The night before I fly out of Paris, I usually stay at a little place right near the Luxembourg RER station at Luxembourg Gardens. It's called Hotel des Jardin du Luxembourg. Tiny little boutique hotel on a dead-end street just east of the gardens and a two minute walk from the station. Their prices are very fair and the front desk is friendly.
If you don't want to take the RER then you can easily take a taxi...traffic in Paris is very light on Sunday especially since you'll need to leave your hotel by about 6:30.

People who advise, on this forum, to give yourself a 3 hour margin when flying home out of CDG, know what they are talking about. We did that last fall; and I was surprised to notice, when we sat down at the gate to await boarding, that 2 hours and 20 minutes had elapsed since we walked out of our hotel’s front door (Sheraton, right in T 2). You not only have the usual check-in, check bags, security clearing to deal with; but there is an extra step of registering that you are leaving the Schengen zone. These are not necessarily near each other, and it’s a big airport. Just walking from one place to another took some time, and there was a certain amount of line waiting. So, 3 hours pre-flight plus an hour if you take the RER, puts you at 6:30. Presumably, you’ll need some time to get ready, as well. 6 or earlier wake up. Myself, I would rather have the extra hour of sleep gained by staying at the airport, as well as the serene feeling of knowing that no accident or other unanticipated event will cause me to miss my flight.
There are many options just outside the end of the tram line that runs between terminals, if you don’t want to pop for the Sheraton. You could always have your last night in town and take the RER out after doing what you want to do.

I agree with Rosalyn and others who recommend an airport hotel. You should plan to arrive at the airport by 7:30, which means a very early wakeup if you're in the city, before a long tiring flight. It's true that traffic will be light that early Sunday morning, but for me the extra sleep and peace of mind are worth staying at the airport. You can always whoop it up in Paris the afternoon/evening before. ;-)

I would probably stay at an airport hotel, but I would also go into Paris for dinner and a last evening stroll around Notre Dame; the worst meal I have had in Europe was at the airport Hilton --and rude service and very expensive (the expensive would have been expected and ok if the meal had been good, it was nearly inedible and dried out and awful --shockingly bad). I'd take the train into the center and have dinner there and return to the airport late in the evening for that last sleep and to cut an hour off of the time I have to get up to make the plane. With a 10:30 flight to the US you have to be at check in at 7:30 and that means in a cab in Paris at 6:30 -- so the airport hotel is great for that last night.

I've flown out of CDG many times, and have never stayed at an airport hotel. Several times we stayed in Paris, and the last few times we've stayed in nearby towns such as Senlis and Plailly. I'd do anything to avoid staying at an airport hotel anywhere. I guess if I had a super-early flight, like 7 a.m., I'd do so.

If you will already have been in Paris for the start of your trip as you said and you want to maximize your time in Bayeux, then take a train that gets you into CDG at night and stay overnight at a CDG hotel. Even if you want to spend an 1/2 day or evening Paris, why not stay at a CDG hotel and just take the RER B both ways on Saturday. It might just be easier and less stressful.

There is always a chance that the RER B might have a service issue and that you could be rerouted to a bus for part or all of the RER B route between your hotel and CDG. On the day we left Paris which was a Sunday morning like yours, the RER B had an area of no service and buses were implemented. Buses are slower. It did not affect us as we left Paris by train and the RER B was running between Luxembourg and Gare du Nord.

In September we returned from Paris to Chicago via a 10:10 a.m. flight out of CDG. It was a Wednesday. We stayed overnight in the city on Tuesday so that we could enjoy one final dinner in Paris, one final stroll past all the lively cafes, one final look at the twinkling Eiffel Tower. I'd never give that up for an airport area hotel. We didn't give any weight to the fact that a hotel near the airport would have given us an extra hour to sleep in, knowing we had an 8 hour flight ahead of us for napping. A cab picked us up in the morning at the time suggested by our hotel concierge. I believe it was 6:15 a.m. We were in the 16th arrondissement. The cab fare was 50 Euro. The ride was fast, until we got close to the airport, and then traffic got bogged down and we had maybe 15 minutes of moving forward a few feet at a time before the cab was finally able to drop us off at our gate. Still, we arrived inside the airport with the suggested 3 hours of time before our departure. Checking in was not fast because the Air France self-check kiosks were down and the lines for agents were long. Then there was a 1 hour wait in line for the next step, to go through passport control and arrive in the security area. Security itself was fast. We had plenty of time to relax at the gate before boarding. With a 10:30 a.m. flight, I wouldn't stay near the airport. Treat yourself to one final night in Paris, who knows when you might get back??
