Last night in Paris- hotel?

Hello all! We have booked our lodging for a three-week trip to France and Italy. All we have left is our last night in Paris and I am boggled by the number of hotels to choose from...

We start our trip with six nights in a Paris (St Germain) apartment, then have five nights in Annecy, four nights in Varenna (Italy) and three nights in Lyon before heading back to Paris for our last night.

I'd like it to be in a different part of the city, but perhaps with an airport shuttle for our departure the next day.

What is your favorite Paris hotel and why?

Thanks, Carrie

Paris hotels don't have shuttles to the airport and private shuttles are less reliable than just booking a taxi the night before. We would stay at Henri IV Rive Gauche in the 5th near the river and take the RER to the airport at the nearby St. Michel Station.

But you could also stay somewhere quite different like say the Terrass Hotel in Montmartre and get a cab to the airport. That would cost about 45 Euro. Montmartre is a charming part of town and this hotel has a nice view to the Eiffel Tower and is an easy stroll to Abbesses and the restaurants and cafes there. A good restaurant is around the corner and up Rue Caulaincourt at 65 Rue Caulaincourt: Bistrot le Maquis. We had a terrific lunch there with a local who introduced us to the place. A very nice walk would be up Rue Caulaincourt to the restaurant then proceeding on up Rue Caulaincourt until you get close to the Lamarck Caulaincourt metro and turn right and go up Ave Junot through some lovely architecture, by the park with the man walking through the wall, past a lovely playground and on up to the Place du Tertre (we hate the place but it is on most tourist punch lists) and then through that to Sacre Coeur and the great view out over Paris. If you go left at the park with the man walking through the wall, you will go by the vineyard and then wander to the right to the back of Sacre Coeur and walk along the side to the front for the view.

A lot of it depends on how early your flight is. If it's very early, then staying near the airport is a good option (not something I've ever done, though). But if you'll have enough time in the morning, I'd stay near a RER stop and take the RER to the airport. That's what I've always done. Or take a taxi. Another option, if you have a rental car andwhich we've done several times (including our upcoming trip) is to stay in a town like Senlis or Plailly, just a short drive to CDG, and return you car to the airport the next morning.

I detest staying near any airport on my last night...HOWEVER - since the French seem to be the most strike/protest-prone people on the face of the planet I would probably choose to stay near the airport so that I didn't have to rely on the RER or even taxis for that matter. Both are highly susceptible to strikes and labor protests.

do not stay NEAR the airport. Either stay in Paris or AT the airport at a hotel within the airport itself. There is a Novotel that sits on the RER to Paris and so you could check in early afternoon and then take the train into Paris for the evening and dinner and be at the airport in the morning. If you have an early flight, that is a good plan which we have done in similar circumstances; if it is later in the day then staying in Paris makes sense.

Hi,

On my last night in Paris, I stay at the airport, ie Roissy, only at the Campanille Hotel, the same class/level as Ibis but a French chain. The price is decent, same with the rooms, has a good restaurant and a free shuttle starting at 0530 to the airport. Always had a satisfactory experience with Campanille.

i second what Fred said,, go for the shuttle, i had had a hell of a time returning my rental car,,,and i stayed in the area that he did but it was still a nightmare returning the car. The airport signs are horrific.
