Last minute “Swifty” help sought

My adult daughter scored tickets to Taylor Swift in Lyon for 1 June. Starting from square one, I assume there is very little if any “room at the inn” available. Where would conventional wisdom suggest I look for lodging within a reasonable distance from Lion? I assume any place that would be a reasonable train ride would suffice. Traveling will be my daughter and wife.

If flights to Paris are full, what alternate airport is suggested?

I normally work on trips for many months and figure lodging and transportation first. This trip is going to present many challenges.

Thanks for any help

What’s your hotel budget? There are hotel rooms available in Lyon from May 30 June 2nd. Also just so your wife and daughter know, the stadium where Taylor will be playing is not actually in Lyon.

I am flying back to the US from Lyon's airport, albeit two weeks after TS. It's a regional carrier and then a Delta flight with a transit through Amsterdam that was incredibly expensive- booked months ago and the layover is now changed to 7+ hours, if it makes you feel better about booking now!
I wonder about a regional flight into Lyon, from some European city. It might be too late for the airport hotels? But there seem to be quite a few.

Geneva hotels would be super expensive, its in Switzerland. But it might be a good place to fly into with direct flights from New York and DC, off the top of my head. Prices look almost reasonable.

Booking.com is showing hotel rooms available that night. I’m also seeing multiple Accor hotels (e.g., Novotel, Ibis) on accor.com. I’d start by seeing if you can find something in Lyon.

I don't see why they cannot fly to Paris and then take a train Lyon a day or so before the concert and then on the concert day take mass transit from Lyon to the stadium. It's almost two months away. Not only are there hotel rooms available in Lyon but I also doubt that flights to Paris are not sold out for late May. Have you or your adult daughter done any looking to see the available flights and hotels and found nothing available or are you assuming that nothing is available? Forty days is a lot of time to plan a trip.

I am trying to arrange the most logical travel. I see there are flights into Milan and then a four hour train to Lyon. After the concert, another train ride to Paris and then home

I was asked to work on this late last night. My first move was to this forum, as it has always done me well. The knowledge and expertise here is amazing. It is matched only with the great members who are always willing to lend a hand.

Where are you coming from? The Milan-Lyon train link is still shut down and will take at least 8 hours with a train replacement bus over the Alps.

Geneva makes sense as it is 2 1/2 hours by train from Geneva airport. Cost is 38 CHF.

How about Marseille? Is there a tgv from there to Lyon? We have flown there from the US by way of Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt.

Where are you flying from? IMO, the most logical thing to do is to fly to France and take a train from CDG to Lyon. Trains run frequently and the trip takes 2 hours. Unless you cannot find any flights to Paris, it makes no sense these days to go to Milan to get to Lyon. Marseille makes more sense but you will have to make a connection if you are flying from the US and unlike CDG, there is no train station at the Marseille airport. It's not hard to get from the airport to the train but my thinking is why deal with having to find a shuttle when you can fly into a airport with a train station.
For getting to the stadium, there are shuttles that run from Lyon to the stadium on game days. I wonder if they will have those shuttles on the nights of the concerts. The stadium is also reachable from the Tram 3 line by getting off at the Decine Grand Large station and waking about 20 minutes. Also, there is a hotel at the stadium called the Kopster.

Lyon also has an airport. While it will mean a connecting flight, either that or Paris would be my first choice.

Mumbling & Stumbling,
Before I check out the forum, I check with Google Flights, Then I can narrow down my question, as forum contributors are travelers like you and me, not travel agents. If you do a little research on Google Flights first, you may get more specific suggestions from the forum. Good ,luck!
