Hello!
My husband and I will have 10 full days in France, flying and out of Paris mid-late September. We have both been to France before, but decades ago and those were hectic visits. Though we have seen several of the major sites. I'm having trouble figuring out the most efficient itinerary that makes the best use of our time given we're traversing across the country a couple times. I've played around with the itinerary so many times but still find that we have lost time due to travel time between destinations. Would greatly appreciate any advice, recommendations, or no-go's. Our interests are: art, history, museums, architecture, local culture, regional cuisine that caters to locals, local food markets, antiques, being on the water (was thinking kayaking in the Dordogne or Cote d'Azur) if time allows.
We're also celebrating our wedding anniversary on this trip and will likely be in the Cote d'Azur during that time.
If anyone has any accommodation recommendations for these areas, I'd welcome those, too! We do not want hostels and private bathrooms are important.
Current itinerary:
Sept. 17–Arrive in Paris
Afternoon of Sept 17 - Sept 21 — Paris (3 nights Paris)
Sept. 21, 9:25 PM — Depart Paris via overnight train to Nice (1 night overnight train)
Sept. 22–25 — Côte d'Azur (3 nights Cote d'Azur)
Sept. 25 — fly Nice → either to airport in Bergerac (EGC) or Brive-Souillac (BVE) + drive to Dordogne, afternoon in dordogne
Sept. 26 — Dordogne/prehistoric cave paintings/kayaking/exploring (2 nights Dordogne region)
Sept. 27 — morning train Dordogne → Paris - last evening in Paris (1 night Paris)
Sept. 28 — Paris - depart
Wondering if we should reduce Cote d'Azur by 1 day and add that to the Dordogne? It seems there is so much to see in that region.
Thanks in advance for any advice and recommendations!
