Last lunch in Paris

So my last day in Paris is June 19….I’ll take the Eurostar back to London later that day

I don’t know when I’ll be back, do I just want to have an indelible, fond memory…

I’m thinking of Paul Bert, BUT….there’s a fondue restaurant called Les Marmottes that gets very good reviews. I LOVE fondue and raclette…

Would I be crazy to have fondue in June, lol? I just can’t get it where I live, so that’s part of it…

*I don’t mind being crazy, lol

I’d be one person - I’m not even sure they’d serve me (though I read one review from a solo diner that indicated it wasn’t a problem) since most menus I’ve seen indicate a minimum of 2 people

Thanks !

First, I've been traveling solo for decades and have never had a problem being served anywhere in Europe, including Paris.

Second, why would it be crazy to have fondue in June? If you like it, and it's available then have at it. You could also wait till you're there and see what's available. You might have a different mindset once you're in the city.

Mardee, it would never bother me, and honestly - if no one ever went there except in cold weather months, these types of restaurants would close

I’ve read a couple of Trip Advisor reviews saying they saw mice…I do tend to take TA reviews with a grain of salt, but still…now I’m thinking of Pain VIN Fromages for dinner (not open for weekday lunch) and my soufflés at Le Recamier for my last lunch

June is months away - so could I change my mind? Easily - if it weren’t a matter of wanting a specific kind of food. Restaurants may change (doubt Le Recamier will), but not my craving for soufflés and fondues, lol

Oops, my bad - I mentioned that about being solo because the menus I’ve seen from these restaurants specify minimum of 2 people

Thank you!

I love your thinking, to have your great and memorable meal. I've been doing more of that myself during my solo travels.

I have found occasions where a menu item was listed for a minimum of 2 people. I recently saw a minimum of 4 for a tasting menu. So it's definitely something to confirm ahead.

One common example I found was paella in Spain. I did find a place that made enormous skillets of it at lunch and I was able to buy just one portion - though perhaps not as fresh and sizzling as made to order. Anyway, that communal dish is not common, and seems unlikely for fondue or raclette, except perhaps at Christmas or market type kiosks - which is where I find my paella - at a market kiosk.

If there is a minimum, I'd be inclined to seek out new friends on the trip and invite one for a fondue dinner! I've done that sort of thing, so I think it can be fun, if a bit difficult to plan for and not everyone's thing.

CW, I did e-mail Pain Vin Fromages, & they said it would be fine

I guess the 2 person minimum is be sure it’s harder to make smaller portions of fondue, but I’d be fine taking on the 2 person size, lol

I probably should have taken on the 2 portion size of paella. The market meal was just fine, but I'm sure a restaurant dish would be better.

I'm glad you've got a place you can go as a solo!

CW, I travel and dine out solo all the time - pretty much nothing stops me. But - I’m very glad that I can indulge in this case as a solo!

Thank you!

Restaurants may change (doubt Le Recamier will), but not my craving for soufflés and fondues, lol

Ha, well, that makes sense! I've gone out of my way for sticky toffee pudding in the UK, so I understand cravings!

Betsy, if there is a heatwave in June you will have no difficulty getting a table at Pain Vin Fromage, the last thing you want to eat when it's 30°C (85F) or more in Paris is a fondue !

Jolui, when you put it that way….I can’t even think about having it then, lol…of course I’m planning on having boeuf bourguinon ..not exactly a summery meal, lol

I ate at Les Marmottes last week and it was delicious. But it's hard to go wrong with raclette.

Alexander, good to know - thanks!

I agree - I had raclette for the first time in Switzerland, when I was 13….I’ve never been able to get it out of my mind
