We have mid-morning reservations for the English tour at Lascaux IV in September. We will be traveling from Sarlat and wondering if anyone can suggest any sights or towns we could combine with the Lascaux visit. Thanks.
The museum at Les Eyzies is really excellent -- explores the Neolithic past in the area. The cave Rouffignac which takes you under ground on a little train has in our experience not had long liines and been excellent and they have the best souvenir t-shirts. You don't see polychrome like in Lascaux but it is the real deal not a recreation.
If you have a car, see this map and make your choice, I think I have included everything that is possible to visit in the region.

We were there in April, and I just want to mention that the movies and exhibits that follow the excellent English tour are well worth exploring. The museum in Les Eyzies was closed the day we were there, but I think it would be a great addition to the day.
Our prehistoric Dordogne day tour started from Beynac. Drove to Montignac / Lascaux. Then south on the D706 along the Vézère River to La Roque St-Christophe (not prehistoric, but a medieval cave settlement in an unbelievable natural rock formation), and on to the Prehistoric Museum in Les Eyzies, before driving back home to Beynac. All in an easy day's drive.
