Lascaux II or IV or else ?

Hi !
We will be in Dordogne this summer (late july) gor 5 nights. We already got Font de Gaume tickets. Which one should we chose ? 2 adults and 2 12 and 15 years old kids .

I’ve only been to Lascaux IV so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but my husband and I both enjoyed it.

Back in May we went to the Prehistory museum, an English tour at Lascaux Four (reserve now!) followed by Rouffignac, a real cave. That pretty much was all we needed to see.

Recommend Chateau Milandes while you’re in the area. Youngsters should enjoy it.

I agree that Chateau Milandes is well worth the visit.

When you go to Font de Gaume, consider spending an hour or so - perhaps before - at the National Museum of PreHistory in Les Eyzies (the town right by Font de Gaume). It will give your family a great background for your visit to the cave. https://musee-prehistoire-eyzies.fr/en

Our recent trip included the Musee, Font de Gaume and then Lascaux the following day. There are other original caves near Les Eyzies, as well. Since we were biking rather than driving, we did not deeply research Rouffignac or Peche Merle or other alternatives.

I recommend going to the cliff dwellings at La Roque St Christophe. I didn’t think they were very impressive in photos but a big wow in person. They were first inhabited 55,000 years ago and can’t even imagine how it all came to be. Plus the views are amazing.
