Lady and the Unicorn Tapestries

I am going to Paris and would like to see these tapestries. When I saw them at the Cluny three years ago viewing was possible for one hour a day. Does anyone know the current times to visit this set of tapestries?

When we were there in June 2023 we could stay as long as we wanted. Plus, the museum is fantastic! Give yourself 2-3 hours to see more of the wonderful objects there. It has so much more than just those tapestries.

Since the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries are your prime interest I suggest you do this:

From the entrance foyer where your ticket is scanned, go up the stairs to the First Floor. You will be working backwards thru the rooms (numerically that is, you can still walk facing forward, hahha!) and the tapestries are in Room 20 on this museum map.

I'm wondering if when you encountered limited viewing times that it was shortly after Covid and they were having staffing issues. There is always a guard in the room with the tapestries.

Since recent renovations the museum is a lot more interesting. Note particularly the heads of the Biblical kings once on the front of Notre Dame, lopped off during the revolution and discarded and then recently found used as landfill when a local building was being renovated. they are now displayed at the Cluny. There have long been replacements on the bodies of the kings on the facade of Notre Dame.

We visited a couple of years ago and there was no line to get tickets and no limits on time spent. The tapestries are much better displayed in the new interiors. It is always a good idea to get ticket on line ahead as lines are unpredictable. Not long ago I walked into the Jeu de Paume with no line and when I left there was a line of about 50 people. But you can get the on line tickets when you are ready to go; you don't need a long lead time.

A pleasant complement to your visit with the tapestries would be lunch at nearby Bouillion Racine. The restaurant, in a beautiful Art Nouveau room, is only a block or so from the museum. Reserve a day or two before, the restaurant appears to be popular with locals. Be sure you are seated upstairs, not on the ground floor.

I saw them in April this year and as others have said, there was no time limit. What I did notice was the whole museum was extremely warm and stuffy. It was springtime, temps outside were delightful, and we weren't wearing layers, but left sooner than intended because it was just too hot. I don't know if this was a one-time thing, but typically museums are cool rather than warm. Enjoy your visit!

Janet, are these newly displayed in the Cluny? I was there in 2012 and saw 14 of these heads displayed. Are these in addition to those 14 that were there then?

the display may be new but I assume it is the same old heads -- my earlier visit was about 30 years ago. the heads were found in 1977 -- I had thought it was much later -- so they may have been there when we visited but I didn't remember. The display is quite stunning and I think new with the renovation. Over 20 were discovered in the foundation of a town house in the 9th -- just used as junk and landfill when the house was built.
