Hi! Mahalo in advance. I live in Hawaii. But going to Paris and Loire for 2 weeks May 24-June 7. I live in sundresses at home. If I layer sweaters and a cute jean jacket over sundresses with New Balance 327’s or sandals, am I gonna look ridiculous? LOL don’t want to buy a whole wardrobe for the trip that I’ll never wear again. But I see from temperatures from last year that it could be cooler. It’ll be 95 at home. Will also be heading to Denver and Knoxville TN for 2 weeks during the same trip. So I’ll need clothes that work in all places. Ideas please as every video I watch seems to contradict the one before.
No you're not going to look ridiculous.
But you may wish to have a pair of trousers/slacks/leggings as well, in case there is an unseasonal wind around the knees!
Just bring clothes that are wrinkle free or drip dry. Most women who travel prefer pants because of riding public transportation and going up and down steep steps. Avoid skirts that can blow up in the breeze. I did have a crinkle fabric beach dress that was great for hot day. A Tee Shirt Dress works well you because can dress it up. But wear whatever feels comfortable; as the Parisian dress in all kinds of styles and no one will notice what you wear. If dresses are your thing go for it. Watch "Emily in Paris" on Netflix before you go. Nobody but high fashion models dress like she does. Watch the "Paris Agency" also on Netflix to see how real Parisians dress.
Hi!
If you “layer sweaters and a cute jean jacket over sundresses with New Balance 327’s or sandals” you are going to fit right in!!! That’s definitely a look in Paris. Add a lightweight scarf double-wound loosely around your neck, a delicate bar and chain necklace, and a couple of bangles and you will pass for a chic French woman.
Have a blast!
I like Volva's suggestions. We were there last spring during a very warm spell; and many dressed as described. Except one young couple speaking fluent French; we noticed in Rodin gardens looked so fashionable. She was wearing stillettos while walking in the gardens full of small pebble walkways and dirt. I looked down at my sensible Hoka's was so glad I don't have to play that game!
And also, if you get there and it’s cooler than you planned, go shopping! Pick up a pair of pants and top to go with your sweater and jean jacket. I love coming home with a new piece of clothing!
OMG! I love you guys! I’ve read, watched, and traveled with Rick Steve’s books and videos for decades. Hands down the nicest people I meet traveling always follow him. 😁. Yes the Emily in Paris ( love the show) look doesn’t really exist. Nor could I ever afford it! LOL I’ll watch the other show. Didn’t know about that. It’s my 5th trip to Paris. I even learned and later taught photography workshops on the streets there. No idea why I’m stressing over this. LOL Thank you for the tips on skirts blowing up! That happens here on our island too, often! I just ordered 2 cute skorts on Amazon for the sale yesterday. Thank god they have shorts under them! Thinking underwear for my other skirts is a fantastic idea! LOL I take laundry sheets and wash in the bathtub. I can pack for a month in amazon’s little roller under the seat bag. I really should do a video as this is one of the very few skills I possess. LOL I have no doubt I’ll come home with some new clothes too. That’s my favorite, and usually, only souvenir. Us girls are even planning on a 2nd collapsible bag in our suitcases just in case…. Thank you all so much for the information! And it’s nice to know all the hours I’ve spent poring over fashion videos for Paris we’re on track. ❤️😁
