La Turbie's Trophy of Augustus closes in Monday and has admission fee?

Hi All,

I want to visit La Turbie and of course its famous Trophy of Augustus monument. I find in this website http://la-turbie.monuments-nationaux.fr/
that it has an admission fee also opening hour (closes every Monday) which is pretty surprising for me since I always thought that it's a monument everyone could walk in and see , enjoying the surrounding view without time limit.

perhaps what the website means by opening hour and admission fee is for the museum that's located nearby? Could someone rectify this please?

Also I could see from pics that there's gate surrounding the monument, could we get inside the gate?

Jen, no you can't access the monument on days that the site is closed, and yes, it has a small fee to visit when it is open. See this PDF map of the site from the same website you posted above:

You can see where the entrance/ticket desk is (marked "A"). That entrance will be shut on days/hours the site is closed.

Rick's own guide to Provence and the French Riviera has this to say:
"It's depressing to think that it's closed on Mondays, if that's your only chance to visit. You'll enter through a small park…" You can see that park on the map, and relationship of monument to the entrance.
