Any fans of this area? Thinking of coming from Paris and sending three nights before going to Bordeaux. What are your favorite things to do and see? Will not have a car. Hotel and restaurant recommendations are appreciated.

La Rochelle has a fantastic market. We ate at a place near the market. I haven’t been, but the aquarium is said to be world class. There are boat trips. Three nights is only 2 days, so you probably don’t have time to see Coulon in the Venise Verte, which is my favourite place in this region.
I had a car, so can’t comment on public transport. On Re, we used our bikes more than the car, as there are many good cycle paths. I prefer Oleron to Re - it’s a more genuine place, far less ostentatious.
I had 3 weeks in this area, but we stayed in our caravan, so can’t help with accommodation recommendations.
