La Roche Guyon

We will be returning from Bayeaux in a rental car. We have heard that seeing La Roche Guyon ( I think it is where Rommel had his headquarters in France?) is worthwhile. If so, how long would you stay there? We were wondering whether we should stay overnight or, since it is about 40 miles from Paris, if we could spend a few hours there and then continue on to Paris.

We were there in September. Bayeaux is about 3 good hours drive. 2-4 hours should be enough in LRG. there's not a huge emphasis on Rommel but the architecture is interesting. No English tour but the paper translation is adequate. Our legs weren't up for a climb to the top. The town is cute for a quick stroll. The walled garden across from the castle is a work in progress. You won't spend much time in it. Tripadvisor has a lot of reviews you could check. I would spend the night in Paris unless you have other Normandy sites you want to see such as Giverny.

Hi,

That's correct. The HQ for Army Group B in 1944 was located at La Roche Guyon. The chateau on the hill was Rommels' HQ. I took a day trip r/t there from Paris. A few hours would do in seeing the chateau, sighting seeing the town, have lunch, etc. and then going on to Paris.

I spent an afternoon seeing the chateau, the exhibit, the town., etc at an unhurried pace. The chateau did have a historical exhibit on Rommel, very interesting in its portrayal, reading the material.
