L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue as home base for a week?

Last year I stayed in St.Remy. I was thinking of changing it up.

ANy other options? Would like a town with central access, easy to get in an our of. Also a supermarket and maybe a few places to eat at night if needed.

I gather you will have a car. It's a very pretty town but totally overrun on the Sunday market day, so you should check ahead of time about traffic patterns if you plan to use your car that day. I don't know what it's like on the secondary market day, Thursday. I made two day trips there from Avignon rather than spending the night, but it certainly seemed large enough to have multiple decent restaurants. I didn't look for a supermarket. On market days it's sort of hard to see beyond the sales booths jamming the sidewalks. It's even rather difficult to see how pretty the town is on those days.

Yes, there's at least one good supermarket (we didn't have a car so only looked close in). There were quite a few good restaurants. We really enjoyed our week there, doing several daytrips by bus/train.

Do you need to be IN town ?

We stayed a half mile from town in a spectacular B&B called Les Carmes. We drove in to the grocery store and gas station, but loved loved loved the ambiance of this fabulous lodging. We drove the Cotes du Rhone and into the hill towns like Bonneiux and Gordes and Rousillon and the driving was simple and very close to every area we wanted to visit.

We spent 3 weeks in Provence using a rental house in L'Isle sur la Sorgue as our base and loved it. Restaurants in town are IMO not quite as good across the board as the ones in Saint Remy but overall we found the town quite nice. I found the town easy to get into and out of even on Saturdays and there are quite a few bakeries and supermarkets. There is even a gym that we joined for the three weeks. We stayed in a home on a quiet street behind Cours Fernand Peyre that had a backyard on La Sorgue de Montclar. It was gorgeous and we could walk into the center.

Same thoughts as JHK. Stayed in a reasonably-priced 1BR VRBO apartment on a quiet street, but close to everything including the large, free parking lot on the north side off Cours du Portalet. (I can send the link if you're interested.) L'Isle/Sorgue worked well as a base for touring the nearby villages as well as day trips to Cassis and Rick's recommended winery tour around Gigondas. The Sunday market was, indeed, crowded but the vendors and their wares were terrific, the street musicians talented, and the crowd was polite and cheerful.

Thats what I was thinking. I stayed in St.Remy last year, which was great...but just wanted to find another "Good" town to stay in with similar amenities and location. Ive done the sunday market and loved it. We have 5 people coming total, 2 have never been to Provence so we may revisit some sites. But also Provence has plenty of places we didnt hit the last 8 days were were there.
