L'Isle sur la Sorgue,

We are traveling to L'Isle sur la Sorgue this summer for 3 nights. Our plans are to arrive on a Wed. and do RS walking tour , market on Thurs., canoe on Fri., leave on Sat. My concern is that I noticed that almost all restaurants are closed on Wed. Has anyone else had any experience with this?

I've not been to that town, but have been in smaller French towns when everything closed up on a Sunday evening.

If you really want to have a proper, sit-down dinner that night, you could always head into Avignon. But I feel I can assure you that not everything will be closed during the dinner hours in your little village. If you keep a look out for an Asian 'Traiteur', you can get yourself some nice spring rolls, a curry, noodle salad, that sort of thing.

Sometimes it's good to break up the daily menu with something non-traditional during your travels!

Christine,

I agree with Bill. I doubt that all restaurants will be closed. I'm sure the staff at your hotel will be able to provide information on good restaurants that will be open. If the hotel operates a restaurant, that will likely be open as they'll have to feed their guests.

Be sure you have lots of memory cards for your camera, as that town has lots of canals, with small water wheels in some locations. Great place for photography!

Thanks, Ken. Have you any experience with the Thurs. versus Sun. market?

The Sunday market is much larger usually. There are many restaurants and I am sure you will be able to find a place to eat.....there are lots of neat little back paths and alleyways with antiques and vintage items...the town has a lot of shops and interesting places to explore.

All or almost all restaurants will not be closed on Wednesdays. I stayed there for almost 2 weeks and had no problem finding places to eat on any week night. L'Isle is not a little village. It has a population of almost 20,000 and gets loads of visitors so you will find plenty of restaurants open on a Wednesday.
