Has anyone flown with KLM Airlines before? They have decent ticket prices to Paris - CDG in April and I just wanted to make sure they were a reputable company. I will be flying from Columbus, Ohio to Detroit and then on to CDG. Thanks!
KLM is part of the Sky Team with Delta & Air France. They’re a Dutch airline so lots of flights that go through Amsterdam. I’ve flown them many times - no issues.
They codeshare with Delta, so we've flown with KLM. They are fine. I actually prefer DELTA planes and service, but just marginally.
If your flight from Detroit to CDG is non-stop, it will be on either a Delta or Air France plane, not KLM's. As noted, KLM would sell this as a codeshare.
They have been flying since 1919, over a hundred years.
They are a reputable company. The Royal Dutch airline.
Thanks for your insight and information!
Yes, and I had a positive experience.
Sky Team? KLM is fully owned by Air France.
Yes, I have flown with them a few times and found them to be very efficient and I would choose them , and Lufthansa, over other airlines.
Plus ,if you transit through Amsterdam, that is a very easy and efficiently run airport.
We try to fly KLM as much as possible to Europe. Love them.
I assume you have to go through customs once in the Amsterdam airport to connect to Paris? Do you know if the airline times that with enough time to transfer?
If you are ticketed to CDG/ORY via AMS, KLM will guarantee your making it to France.
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is far better organized than is CDG and is much easier to use.
“*I assume you have to go through customs once in the Amsterdam airport to connect to Paris? *”
You go through Immigration (movement of people) after you land in Amsterdam as that is your entry point to the Schengen Zone. You collect your bag when you land in Paris and complete the walk through at Customs (movement of goods).
To the OP, how much more is the non-stop service from Detroit to Paris? Unless you are saving a lot, I’d cut out one leg and fly direct. I always have a flight to an international hub to begin with and have done a flight through AMS to Paris. It just adds time onto a long flight day.
I agree with Pam - today you can purchase a refundable Premium Select nonstop round trip DTW-CDG on the Delta A350 for $2001 if you choose the departure date April 9 and return date April 17. That seems like a real bargain to me. Other date configurations are usually $3200 for the same options. Try different date configurations if you can be flexible. There's also the partner Air France options in Premium Economy on the 787 with varying prices (I noticed $2000 - $2600 depending on days selected).
Someone on the forum recommended the Hopper app and I plugged in your info. It gave me less than $1k pp which includes flexible tickets. I’ve never used it but the app looks pretty good.
Thanks for all the information. It sounds like I have a couple of good options to consider.
We thought KLM was a very nice airline. Staff very friendly, and it was a very comfortable trip.
It has been several years but we returned to ATL from Brussels via Amsterdam on KLM. THE MD-10 we flew was immaculate like a new aircraft, and the service/food I considered exceptional at that time. Way better than the dirty Delta 767 (yikes) we flew over on.
