Kaysersberg, France Taxi?

I have group of four staying in an apartment in Kaysersberg, France at the end of May 2019, (Thursday, 30 May - Sunday, 2 June). We are arriving into Colmar via train from CDG at 16:18, and then my plan is to use a taxi for our time in Alsace. This is what I have been planning, but now I'm wondering if this is recommended:

Taxi/Uber (4 people)

Thursday - Gare Colmar to Kaysersberg (16:30, with luggage)

Friday - Kaysersberg to Riquewihr (morning),
Riquewihr to Kaysersberg (evening)

Saturday - Kaysersberg to Ribeauvillé (morning),
Ribeauvillé to Kaysersberg (evening)

Sunday - Kaysersberg to Gare Colmar (06:00, with luggage)

I'm now concerned because I just read somewhere that the taxi will charge you a roundtrip fair. For example: if there isn't a taxi in Kaysersberg, and it has to come from Colmar, etc. they will charge you the fair for the portion of the trip to come get you, in addition to when they are driving you to your destination. I haven't been out to these villages before, and need to know if taxis are available in these places, or, when you book one online, if they have to come from Colmar or other surrounding areas.

Can anyone, please, shed some light on this for me?
Bottom line, we have to be at the station by 06:30 on Sunday morning and not with a hold burned in our pockets.

(I have checked car rentals, but that's not an option, due to our arrival and departure day/times. All the websites say there are no rentals available in Colmar. I only have the option to pick up/return from Strasbourg Airport and we aren't going anywhere near there.)

There are buses to get you to Kaysersberg. Unfortunately, May 30 is a holiday in France (Ascension Day), and Sunday the Avis location at Colmar station is closed both days.

I am looking at the on line bus schedules, but they only go out 30 days, so May 29 is the last day to see schedules. The Thursday before shows frequent buses from Colmar to Kaysersberg after your arrival time, but the 30th being a holiday, you will just have to wait until tomorrow to see what the schedule is.

So you might want to take a taxi when you arrive. Next morning, send the driver to Colmar on the bus and rent the car and return. Then Saturday night, drive to Colmar and drop the car, return to Kaysersberg on the bus, and then everyone can take a taxi Sunday morning to Colmar station.

Here is the website for the bus. It is in French. It takes a bit of playing around to see how it works.

Here is something else you could try. Book through SNCF.
https://en.oui.sncf/en/car/train-avis

It shows you can pick up a car on May 30. Turn in on Sunday shows 9 am earliest. Perhaps you can drop the keys at the office. Worth investigating.
BTW, Can the driver drive a standard transmission? That is the only thing they show a price for.

You have been sooo helpful! Thank you!!! The SNCF website let me pick a car from Thursday to Sunday and didn't say those dates weren't available, and since the SNCF staff hand over the keys, this enables after-hours pickup and drop off. It seems like it's too good to be true, so I'm going to contact them directly just to make sure it really will work. I also contacted three taxi companies to get price quotes.

Thanks again!

First of all, congratulations on choosing to spend 4 days in one of the best places in France. It seems your wise plans to rent a car are messed up by a French vacation, so, 2 options: public transport to Ks-burg on day 1, then back to Colmar on day 2 to get a car. Or, stay a night in Colmar---well worth it.

I operate under the rule that there are no bad restaurants in France, so asking for or recommending a restaurant anywhere in France is a waste of time. Wherever you go, if it's a French restaurant, it will be good. But for Ks-burg, I make an exception, actually two exceptions. First, Au Lion d'Or in K-burg is where we realized how and why France is the best place to eat in the world. Also, Au Lion d'Or is a sight to see in itself. The restaurant is still operated by the founding family in its original building. It opened for business in 1729. (George Washington wasn't even a glimmer in his mother's eye yet).

Over the years Au Lion d'Or has changed with the times. On our first visit, bare wood tables. Today, white table cloths. At one stop for lunch, we were seated family style with a couple from the UK and from Denmark and we all had a mast enjoyable meal, not only for the food but for the great company this mini UN provided.

Breakfast is the second great meal in K-burg. The French breakfast on an abomination called a continental breakfast-- bad coffee and a croissant. After our first 2-3 months of traveling in France we came to hate continental breakfast, but in K-burg, we found the answer. One of the sights K-burg is the 13thC fortified bridge, apparently historic in own right. If you look across the bridge in the direction opposite of Albert Switzer's birthplace, you have a view of a steeply rising mini-mountain covered with vineyards with a castle ruin on top of the mountain. Look the other way, And you see a pleasant street of 15th C half timbered houses, with the first building on the lift being a bakery. When we gave up on continental breakfasts, we found the perfect alternative on the 13th C fortified bridge in K-burg. We go to the bakery and get a fresh baked torte, usually apple or peach, take it out to the center of the 13 C certified bridge where there is a bench and sit there to eat breakfast with the morning mists dancing across the river d below, overlook all, the age less castle ruins atop the vineyards, . and everywhere, colorful half timbered houses.

Go to eBay or Discover Books & get a Michelin Green Guide to France. On day 1 out of Ks-burg, head north to Selestat & then start south on the Route de Vin Alsace. If you don't make it thru everything between Selestat & K-burg, go back on day 2. If you still have time, the Route de Vin Alsace continues South from K-burg.

You can easily do R-ville & R-whir in less than one day (by car).

The only Baroque church in France is not too far off the Route de Vin Alsace between Colmar & Strausbourg. See the Green Guide

If you can't return a rental car on Sunday morning, consider returning in Saturday night & staying in Colmar.

You are wise to rent a car. We just left Colmar having spent 5 wonderful nights and all of our trips were by public transit or taxi. (We also did an escorted wine route tour.) The taxis do indeed have to come out from Colmar to the smaller towns. We were happy to spend $60 for 3 rides as we did not have to rent a car, but we were at least in Colmar as a base with some options such as train to Turckheim. The buses are infrequent to some towns and it is challenging to schedule around them.

I was in Colmar a few months ago and we stayed near the station, but this trip is all about the villages in the area, so if the car rental does work out, it's going to make the world of difference. (Keeping my fingers crossed!) We have an apartment for three nights in Kaysersberg, so I have to make this work...and you have all been extremely helpful.

I just ordered the Green Michelin Guide and we will eat breakfast on the bridge! I LOVE these suggestions!
