Just made it to Paris - Strike be damned

After a few days in Copenhagen, we were reviewing our plans last night for today before turning in that involved a Noonish flight to Paris, when the email and text alert came...

Our flight was cancelled because of the strike.

Suffice to say, it has been a very stressful 24 hours, but we made alternate plans after making various missteps and just made it to our flat in Paris after a 16 hour train ride from Copenhagen.

Looks like it will have cost us about $650 and about 8 hours of precious time here in Paris when all is said and done.

But I can tell already, Paris is gonna' be great!

Was anyone else hosed by the strike?

Have a great time in Paris-stay out late, get up early! Sorry to hear of the hassle, sounds like you have the right attitude.

Cheers!

Thank you for the suggestion on the refund. Vueling airlines provided an easy link for them to refund me. It's done. Do rge airlines usually not provide a refund?

I can speak for one case only: friends' Austrian Airlines flight was canceled due to technical problems as they sat in the boarding area in Paris. Austrian and United passed responsibility back and forth, refusing to refund the ticket, pay the train they took, much less give compensation. Only when they filled out the EU paperwork did they quickly get a refund, train paid and compensation.

Oh boy...where to start... We were flying Ryan Air. I will have to write more on them later. We were at the Madrid airport the NIGHT BEFORE at 9pm to check in...just to be safe. They didn't tell us about the strike. Never got an email saying there was a strike. Our flight was at 6:45am. We were at the airport at 4:30am. After being waved away from one line to the other (passing the buck...), was informed flight was cancelled and the earliest they could get our group of 6 to Paris was July 2. Tried to get a train...for 6 people the cost was just too prohibitive and I didn't feel comfortable that we truly would be reimbursed by Ryan Air. After much back and forth ... Ended up flying into Brussels at 6:45 pm (a 12 hour delay). Rented a car and drove to Paris. Oh...it gets better...husband gets violently sick. Three hour trip becomes 4.5. BUT! We had a fabulous day in Paris today!!

Too bad it cost an extra $650, the 16 hr train ride I've done that, but no fun forking out that additional amount of cash.

The cost for the train will be reimbursed per EU rules. Be sure to file, people. Don't just accept whatever the airline offers.
