Jura

Does anyone have a recommended one week itinerary for the Jura/Franch Comte? I would like to use it to orient myself as I read the Michilen guide. I find those guides confusing and best read once you have a general framework. Since I know nothing about the region, I have no framework. I'm not looking for anything tailored to my interests, just a general idea of what people do in the area typically. I have read the nytimes article that came out 3 months ago.

Thanks, Matt

I actually love the Michelin guide, but it's so dense that it's hard to do justice to. It was very helpful when we spent three nights in Besancon. I also like Lonely Planet France, although we often start with Rick's books if we're new to someplace. You have to think about what interests you. We liked following the track of Gustave Courbet. Other people are interested in The Resistance, or flowers, or Three-Star Michelin restaurants. Don't miss the citadel in Besancon, and its museums. I think that's now in Rick.

Bonjour,

I spent holidays in Jura but it was about 10 years ago. So I can't give you "fresh" news. I remember it as a very green and not crowded place. My husband and i hiked and we visited Switzerland that isn't far. Besançon is a must see in this area (very interesting "musée de la Résistance et de la Déportation). Did you check this official website (in english) :

Il could give you some ideas.

From a former Somerville resident to a current resident: We spent a week in the northern Jura this spring, and a week in the central Jura in 2010. Here's a link to my blog, which includes both trips:
