Interesting story in the Times of her classically Provencal home, now on the market, with photos.
Thanks Dave! That was a fun and fascinating article.
I love Julia Child!
There was no one like her.
Thanks for finding and sharing this article!
Great article. The house is so perfectly French!
Thanks for posting this. The coolest part for me were the labels Julia Child made, and the outlines for items on the pegboard from Paul. I read a biography about Julia which was very good, but little physical details make their lives so real.
Loved it - thanks Dave!
Thanks for posting the great article, Dave. Gee, if only I had a spare 800,000 euros lying around . . . :-)
What a wonderful article and pictures. Julia lived her last several years at a very exclusive retirement compound here. I ran into her several times in stores, at a library benefit and fittingly at the farmers market. I once followed her for a few seconds in a grocery store just to see what she had in her cart :-)
Loved the article. Mona, what did Julia have in her shopping cart?!
I know it wasn't bottled salad dressing, which Julia famously said was just "horrid."
I don't remember much and she had just started down the first aisle. She did have a jar of little pickles and 3 or 4 other things. Paul was with her then and I didn't want to intrude on their conversation so I walked away.
I suppose it was inevitable that it would come back to food; so here's a great article about Julia's favorite Mexican food in Santa Barbara-Mona, I'm sure you know it, on Milpas Street. The line here is normally 20-30 people out the door, and it is very reasonably priced, my dentist told me about it!
I figured it had to be Casa Dorinda where she and Paul lived, nice digs, for sure.
Yes we know about the little blue restaurant with no name. Hand made tortillas and more rustic cuisine that's delicious. Thanks for the additional article link, Dave.
