I just read this on The NY Times . One of the true icons of twentieth century culture - https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/22/world/europe/josephine-baker-pantheon-burial.html
So huge. The article is behind a paywall so correct me if wrong I think she is the first African American Woman to be interred!
I hope that creative people who struggle and perserve while pushing against barriers recognize that they they are making a positive mark while alive, and that they will be honored through the ages.
Thank you so much for sharing. Well deserved honor! A true humanitarian.

When I visited the Pantheon years ago they were playing a video in the crypt in one of the side rooms of the various ceremonies when people are installed with honor there. It was fascinating -- each a little different, done in a way to honor the nature of the person and the honor. I don't know if that is still being shown but really interesting to catch if it is.
Lovely moment; Baker certainly deserves the honor. She is buried in Monaco because Princess Grace basically supported her in her later bankrupt years after the lost Milands.
How true ! "...true icons of 20th century culture" C'est formidable !
It’s about time!
Rousseau, roll over and tell Voltaire!
This is fabulous! Now, this tells me as an American I can get in myself! ;) haha
If anyone is traveling through the Dordogne, a visit to Les Milandes is well worthwhile. The displays document Josephine Baker’s life, from her youth performing on the streets of St. Louis, to her honoring by Charles DeGaulle for her heroic work during WWII, to her marching for racial justice along with Martin Luther King. What a woman!
PBS recently showed a documentary of Josephine Baker’s life that was excellent. I wonder if it’s possible to find it…
Another story of Josephine Baker to share-

Awesome! Thank you for posting, Steven.
