J&J

Is anyone in France now? If so, when you got your pass vaccinal did it include a covid test or just your vaxx card and passport at the pharmacy? Did they check for an mRNA booster? My son had a J&J booster so may not qualify for the pass. If anyone in France knows, thank you for an update. My son is an adult.
Thanks so much to all.

I was in Strasbourg in December after the booster requirements went into effect for J&J. I was able to get my Pass Sanitaire updated at a pharmacy with my CDC card showing the booster.

The pharmacist originally said she didn’t think France recognized J&J. I didn’t want to argue, so I just asked her if she would try it. It did and was an easy process.

I am sorry to say, but France requires that anyone who had J&J have their booster be an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna). (Well, France requires that all boosters be Pfizer or Moderna.)

https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/actualites/A15318

Le rappel vaccinal se fait uniquement avec un vaccin à ARNm (Pfizer-BioNTech ou Moderna), quel que soit le vaccin utilisé lors de la primo-vaccination.

“The booster is only done with an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna), no matter what your initial vaccine was.”

Come to think of it, your son won't even qualify as fully vaccinated to enter France if he doesn’t have an mRNA booster. They will treat him as unvaccinated, which means he can only enter if he meets one of a few exceptions (none of which is tourism).

I am assuming your son is over 18 years old, since you said he is an adult. Rules are different for 16- and 17-year-olds with regard to the pass, and 12- to 15-year-olds too.

Here are the full instructions for requirements from the French government, provided in English for entering France.

Scroll down past the world map to where you see tabs for Green area and Orange area — click on Orange as that is how France categorizes the U.S. then go down to the bottom and click on the (+) sign for “You wish to enter Metropolitan France.”

Kim,
You are absolutely the best. My son, who is 40, just got a Moderna booster this morning. I think he is good now for our March 18th trip. Thank you so much.

One last bit of clarification. The mRNA boosters do not become qualifying for entry or for the pass vaccinal until 7 days after they are received.

Tocard supplies the piece of the puzzle I forgot.

So glad your son was able to get an mRNA booster in good time.
