I'm flying in and out of Zurich, and have 12 days by car to sightsee through the Berner Oberland (Lucerne, Interlaken, Murren) and over to France (Chamonix, Annecy and to Lyon). I was planning on circling around through Lugano back to Zurich. Or, I could do the trip in reverse order! Suggestions? What would be the best routes so as to not miss the highlights? And what are the highlights? Are there places where it would be best to park the car and take a train, or funicular? Best places to stay overnight? Thanks for the suggestions!
If you're working your way west toward Lyon, I don't see Lugano fitting into the plan. Driving back Lyon-Zurich by the fastest route takes at least 5 hours, as does a train.
