Hello, I'm trying to figure out how to spend a few days after a cruise that ends in Avignon (Sunday morning) before flying out of Paris (Thursday morning) in October for my husband and myself. We will have already spent a few days in Paris so am considering the Loire Valley to visit chateaux (perhaps stay in Amboise?) for 3 nights, then head to Paris for the last night before our flight the next morning (all public transportation). Or, would it be better to rent a car in Avignon and go elsewhere ---smaller towns? etc.? and see more than 3 days of chateaux?? Any suggestions welcome! Thank you!

Where will you have been on the cruise? There's a lot more to see in Provence, especially with a car.

The cruise goes through Lyon, Vienne, Tournon, and Arles. Thanks for any suggestions! I really appreciate it.

I would rent a car and go into the Luberon for three days, then take the fast train back to Paris the day before your flight. Provence is so lovely, and October is a wonderful time to be there.
