Itinerary advice for Barcelona-French Riviera-Provence (and Lyon?)

We are planning a trip for the last week of May first week of June. Our tentative plan for 14 nights in Europe is:
Fly to Barcelona
5 nights Barcelona
fly to Nice for 2 nights there or nearby
5 nights Provence (1 location TBD)
Lyon 2 nights
fly home from Lyon or train and fly home from Paris

My question is whether the two nights in Lyon make sense, or if we should use those nights in one of the other three locations. I should add that we like a wide range of things, from large cities to small towns and beautiful countryside, architecture, art, museums, walking, and hiking. We enjoy good food and a glass of wine with dinner, but will probably not spend time wine-tasting. (We spent 9 nights in Paris and 5 in Normandy 8 years ago, so do not plan to return to Paris on this trip except perhaps to fly home to the Bay Area)

We recently spent two nights in Lyon. Really enjoyed walking along the river at night. Our day was full and we're saw everything we wanted to. We thought it was just the right amount. We spent 7 busy days in Provence so u could easily put more time there. But we thought the Lyon stop was definitely worth it for the architecture, food, sights, cathedral.

What pops out at me is the short time in Nice. By the time you deal with the flight and get settled in, you won't have much more than a day there. I like Nice and could spend two really full days there just running from one art museum to the next (there are at least 6), but I think most people want to see some of the nearby coastal or hill towns. You really won't have time for any side trips there at all. I don't think it's worth detouring to Nice for such a short visit.

I'd suggest skipping Nice on this trip and redistributing those two days. I think Lyon needs one of them if you have an interest in its museums.

@acraven: Just to be clear, you would skip Nice and redistribute those nights rather than skip Lyon and increase Nice to 4 nights (or increase Provence to 6 & Nice to 3?).

I guess what it comes down to is that I think 3 days in Lyon will provide a better look at that area than 3 days in Nice. Four days in Nice would tempt me a bit more, but it's an area that cries out for a lot of side-trips (to me). Other folks have totally different travel philosophies, but mine is that at 67 years old, I may not get back to a place like Lyon or Nice, so I want to spend enough time there to cover my list of targets. All of those destinations are interesting ones, so you'll have a very nice time no matter what you decide. I'm the sort of person who will always vote for "2 of the 3", though!

@acraven: Thanks for your thoughts. We are of similar age and travel philosophy. The Chagall museum in Nice tempts me...
