It's Tour time

No one seems to be talking about it this year in the media, but it occurred to me that the tour is starting this weekend. In Spain of all places.

Frustrated because it’s gone behind a paywall in the UK. I think we’ll get an hour’s highlights in the evenings, but I will miss it, especially the wonderful views of France

I just posted this on another topic but I drove out to Vitrac today (kayaking on Dordogne. Super fun if you have not yet done.) Anyway, there are a couple stops through this area so much of the route between Lalinde and just before Beynac are getting ready for the Tour. So many of these small villages are all decked out ready to welcome the riders and fans. And there were so many workers cleaning up the roads in preparation. It will be in Bordeaux next Friday 10 July then over to Périgueux down to Bergerac on 11 July. We will be in Bordeaux but we haven't decided if we'll watch.

Hey @phred...change your media!!!

But, yeah, in the mainstream US sports feed, the World Cup is definitely dominating. The TdF will be front and center for me starting this weekend and the Barcelona stages, but I'll still have to multitask between the WC and TdF. I generally watch the WC games live, and the TdF stages in the afternoon/evening on streaming replay, but there will definitely be some prioritization needing to be done to have that much TV time in our house.

And, as the TdF regularly starts in other countries - pretty much every other year - and it almost always visits other countries, starting in Spain is nice but not too odd.

We were in Barcelona in May, and they were starting to get into the TdF hype, and the day we left, a TdF pop-up store was being assembled and packed with merchandise in the Plaça de Catalunya. Sadly, couldn't pop in to check out what they were selling. Probably missed the opening by a day.
