Good morning. I am currently attempting to purchase the Navigo weekly travel pass from the U.S. via iOS app. I was able to create the RATP account without issues. However, when I attempt to purchase the pass via the app I am prompted for an IDFM account. Additionally, I appear to be blocked if I try to create the account. I’m assuming I can buy the pass from the RER station in CDG, but hoping to avoid this after the long flight. Has anyone else run into this issue here in the U.S.?
Thanks in advance,
-Rick
Yes, I had the same problem. It seems you cannot set up an IDFM account until you are actually in country and you may need a French phone number. We arrive Sept 11, and I will know more then.
Edit to add: you can purchase some Navigo items directly through the Apple wallet.
You can indeed purchase a lot of Navigo items through Apple Wallet, but unfortunately the Navigo Weekly pass is not one of them.
The nearest comparable is the Paris Visite Pass for 5 days (76.25 euros), which gives you unlimited travel in Ile de France, including airports. Considerably more expensive than the weekly, but it seems to include more and has the benefit of being good for any 5-day period, not just Monday-Sunday.
For individual metro, bus and airport tickets and Paris Visite passes, open Wallet and tap the + sign at the top of the screen. Tap Transit Card and scroll until you find France/Navigo.
If you are new to Paris and able to walk a lot, I'd recommend just getting some single tickets as you are likely to use transit less than you think.
The RATP blocks access from outside France for those attempting to establish accounts. You can do it once you arrive in Paris.
For heaven's sake don't buy the Visite if the weekly pass fits your dates. It is incredibly expensive. Just wait till you get to Paris. If you want to do it on your phone you can do it on arrival. Or go to an RER window and buy the card and have them put the pass on it.
And I’m sure you are aware that each N. Decouverte pass is active from one minute past midnight on a Monday until midnight the following Sunday.
It’s a great bargain if those days fit with your arrival and departure days.
It does get confusing with all the different passes on offer.
