Isle sur La Sorgue as a base

Hello,

We will be in Provence for 4 days. Would Isle Sur La Sorgue be a good home base? We will have a car. Or would another town be better? Would like to get a taste of Provence. Thanks.

Very enjoyable town. Did not base there, but you could. If you have a car its a plus, but not needed.

ISLS is a FANTASTIC base. We actually stayed in a villa just outside the town. For us it was a base for day trips to:

  • the Luberon villages (Gordes, Roussillon, Apt, Bonnieux, Ménerbes)
  • NImes and the Pont du Gard
  • Avignon
  • St Rémy and Les Baux-de Provence.

The town itself is lovely. If you are at all interested, you can drive up to Fontaine de Vaucluse, ride down the river in a tube, and get picked up at Le Partage des Eaux on the outskirts of town.

We loved it there.

My daughter and I visited Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (years ago) and we had a nice stay at Les Terrasses Hotel and enjoyed a couple of delicious dinners at their restaurant.

Hopefully you’re there on a Thursday or Sunday for their outdoor markets.
We only experienced the Thursday market but have read that the Sunday market gets very crowded.

We also enjoyed a great brunch/lunch at Patisserie Jouvaud. This is a good place for getting some picnic goodies (sandwiches, fruit & vegetable tarts, pastries, chocolates & drinks) for the road.
They also have some unique gift items.

Enjoy your trip!
