Hello! I will be in Paris at the beginning of April and wonder if anyone knows what the gardens at Versailles look like then? Will they be colourful? and what about Paris itself?
thanks!
I did a Google image search for Versailles in April - looks like there’s plenty of tulips and daffodils and such.
While there are some flowers at Versailles, it is primarily an architectural garden rather than flower garden. The beauty is in the fountains and the structure. For a stunning display of bulb flowers in May you can't beat the Luxembourg Gardens. They are spectacular mid April with tulips and daffodils but particularly the displays of tulips.
April is also when the Chestnuts are in blossom and the wisteria. If wisteria is blooming when you are there you might visit the 'flower streets' in the 13th where there are some pretty amazing wisteria. Not sure when the chestnuts flower -- but by mid April they are in full bloom and just everywhere. The weather is iffy in April but it is great for flowers. They replant in Paris major parks all summer and April is bulb flower time.
We were at Versailles in the first week of May and the spring bulbs had already been pulled up to heel in. That leads me to believe they were indeed blooming throughout the month of April. The exact time when they're heeled in probably depends on the weather patterns in a given year, but I would guess early April has a very good chance of spring color.
Thanks all for the info! we look forward to being there!
What you get the first week in April is going to depend on the weather in March -- we'll be there then too and hope things are blooming.
