Hello,
Sorry to have to post here but I couldn't find a help forum and I swear I used one here several years ago. I'm trying to make a post and the error message says "you've made this post here before and can't do it again". Yes, I am making the same post but looking for info on a different part of France during my three month stay. Is it reading the body of my post and recognizing it and is there any way to get around this? I don't really want to have to redraft the wording for each post I make for each area I will be in. Lastly if there is a forum or mod you could point me to it would be greatly appreciated.
Here is the webmaster profile. You can try sending them a message. https://community.ricksteves.com/users/1000
This link has some general help for people using the travel forum - there might be an answer in there. https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/about-the-travel-forum
Thanks all for the suggestions! I've sent a message to the webmaster.
on the other hand if it is about a trip around France you put it all in one post and ask questions about different sections, and people would reply with what they know. And seeing the whole trip laid out helps us give much better answers.
The system is trying to block spammers who visit here from time to time by not allowing repeats. Unfortunately that affects normal people like you and me.
As somebody who regularly helps folks here - or tries to - I much prefer to see the whole plan than a bunch of similar posts.
So if you want to know about sightseeing, restaurants and hotels in Paris, Lille, Dunkerque, Mont St Michel and Avignon, and how to get between them, for example, you can have that all in one...
I hope you get your questions answered both completely and helpfully...
Happy travels
Nigel,
Thanks for the thoughtful and informative response. I decided not to go an "all in one" post including all nine areas I will be in because I thought it could maybe seem overwhleming to both responders and frankly myself. I do now see the merits in the approach you're suggesting so will reformat my post and have it up later today or tomorrow.
Cheers,
wvdthree
The more you tell us about your trip, the easier it is to give advice.
The error message you are getting is a feature, not a bug. That is, it's intentional.
Posting the exact same thing repeatedly is bad for a number of reasons, but more importantly, the forum software will prevent you from doing it (there are other "rules" baked in....try posting a message that is just one short word, it won't let you).
You can work around the "no duplicates" rule, but you usually shouldn't. The rule is there for good reasons.
Is it possible that because the posts are almost identical, the software is reading it as spam?
Change the title and enough of the text so it will appear to be new. That should take care of the issue.
