Is there a best season for Giverny?

I'll have a few days in Paris the first half of May. Is this the best time to plan a day trip to Giverny, or does it matter? I'll be back again in September but I'm thinking spring may be better.

Giverny.org includes a " flowering calendar of Claude Monet's garden". On the left side of the page, under Further Readings. We visited in the last few days of August and I recall particularly the dahlias. There were some waterlilies still blooming. I doubt you could go wrong with either date....or both. Given a choice, I would select May just because I'd guess a wider array of flowers may be likely. By September our garden is in its waning days, but we have a staff of one. We thought we'd spend the entire day but after about 3,4 hours we took off. Part of that decision was based on our shuttle schedule back to the train station...there was a large gap in departures from the garden in the afternoon, as I recall. Have a great visit.

I heard it just depends on what kind of flowers you want to see.

Both? Lol! I've been in Sept and Oct and it was great. Going in mid-May and looking forward to different flowers.

Thanks for the responses. This is kind of an afterthought to my itinerary. I have a little Paris time but didn't schedule anything (except walking through parks on arrival day).

From my own experiences with my garden, May seemed like it might be better.

Here is what it looked like in late May when we went. It was past the tulips and daffodils, lots of Iris still in bloom.

I think they are very dedicated to having the gardens lovely during all the season they are open. Although we were past most bulb flowers and before most roses, it was still very nice. But I am sure it is gorgeous in September too which is a good month for gardens in Paris.

What lovely photos! I think if I go, it will be in May. It's on my bucket list!

I was there last Saturday (April 22) and it was beautiful. I was not expecting it to be so colorful so early. I had prepurchased tickets but there was no wait and was not at all crowded.

Thanks, I put it in as a tentative for now since it's something I haven't done. I may just want to take it easy in Paris this time. The only real must see, because I didn't go last time, is the Arc de Triomphe.

I highly recommend May. I went two years ago May 11-13 and there were tons of flowers blooming including the wisteria. We took the train and bicycled from the train station. All seasons are good but I think it very nice in the spring.
